The Starfield
The Universe Within
For Symphony Orchestra | 2026
Artistic Concept
Rooted in Eastern philosophical thought, The Starfield explores the relationship between the universe and the inner world of human consciousness. Rather than depicting the cosmos as an external spectacle, the composition approaches the starfield as a metaphor for the mind—a space where the boundaries between self and universe gradually dissolve.Inspired by the philosophical traditions of Daoism and Buddhism, the work unfolds through six interconnected images: the horizon, the rising wind, the passing meteor, the trembling of heaven and earth, the blooming of radiance, and the infinite expanse. Each image represents a stage of spiritual transformation, tracing a journey from limitation to openness, from fleeting perception to a sense of timelessness, and from individual existence toward the unity of all things. At its heart, The Starfield reflects on a fundamental idea: the universe is not merely something we observe, but something we experience within ourselves. The journey does not end among the stars. It returns to the mind, where the infinite has always existed.
